Two Brand Powerhouses, One Festival
The Battle of Malta and Card Casino Šamorín are a natural fit, and the collaboration between them is not accidental. Casino Malta, which owns and operates the Battle of Malta brand, has built fourteen years of credibility on a simple promise: serious poker, accessible buy-ins, and a festival atmosphere that keeps people coming back. The Autumn 2025 edition drew 6,039 entries to the Main Event and generated a €2,728,970 prize pool with more than €6 million in total prize pools throughout the festival. Italian grinder Candido Cappiello earned the €225,770 top prize as part of a three-way deal.
The 2026 Summer Edition, which Alejandro Asenjo won the €94,520 first-place prize as part of a four-way deal after a 2,667-entry field produced a €1,186,962 prize pool, delivered more of the same. This is a brand with a track record, not a festival looking for its identity.

Card Casino Šamorín, on the other hand, is Slovakia’s largest casino and one of Central Europe’s most serious poker venues. The WSOP Circuit visited in 2025 and returned in 2026 for a €2,800,000 guaranteed series. Two major international festivals at the same venue within six weeks of each other in a single year. That does not happen at venues that are still figuring out how to run a poker room. Card Casino has the infrastructure, the team, and the operational experience to host this correctly. When Casino Malta brings its brand to a new market and chooses a partner, it needs a venue that can deliver the same standard players expect at home. Card Casino Šamorín is that venue.
The combination of these two brands in one week is the strongest argument for making the trip. The Battle of Malta formula applied to a fresh market, at a venue that already knows how to handle large international fields, in a region that has been looking for exactly this kind of event. The headline is a €400 Main Event with a €400,000 guarantee. That number is right for a debut edition in a new market, and the structure around it is where the real value sits.
The opening flight on September 8 is a Half Prize flight at €200. That is half the Main Event buy-in, and you advance to Day 2 with a full stack if you survive. The Danube runs along its edges, there is a forest park on the outskirts, a thermal spa, cycling paths along the riverbank, and the X-Bionic Sphere sports complex nearby for anyone who wants to do something other than play poker. September in this part of Slovakia is still warm, with pleasant daytime temperatures and cool evenings. It is not Malta, but it is genuinely comfortable and far cheaper.
The casino is located at Krajinská cesta 679/21, exactly 25 kilometres and approximately 20 minutes from Bratislava by car. Bratislava is a proper European capital city with an old town worth spending an afternoon in, a castle overlooking the Danube, excellent restaurants, a growing bar scene, and prices that are still meaningfully lower than Western European equivalents. If you are travelling with someone who is not playing poker, Bratislava gives them a full city to explore while you are at the tables.
The two nearest airports are Bratislava Airport (BTS), which is effectively on the doorstep, and Vienna International Airport (VIE), which is approximately 60 kilometres away and connected to Bratislava by regular bus and shuttle services in under an hour. Vienna is one of the best-connected airports in Central Europe with direct flights from virtually every major European city and beyond.
