2025 WSOP: David “ODB” Baker Wins Fourth Bracelet in $5K Seniors High Roller

David ODB Baker 2025 WSOP Event #40: $5,000 Seniors High Roller Bracelet Winner
David ODB Baker

The 2025 WSOP rolled on at Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas, and it took an extra day to determine a champion in Event #40: $5,000 Seniors High Roller. The event drew a field of 801 seasoned contenders, generating a massive $3,684,600 prize pool.

Four players returned for an unscheduled Day 4, and it seemed that David “ODB” Baker was the man to beat and he brought with him a wealth of experience and already three WSOP titles. While he didn’t lead much on the final day, Baker showed poise under pressure and ultimately sealed the deal to earn his first No Limit Hold’em bracelet and the $646,845 top prize that came with it.

Baker’s first WSOP bracelet came in the $2,500 8-Game event back in 2012. He added two more bracelets in 2019 ($1,500 Limit Hold’em) and 2023 ($1,500 Razz), and with this latest victory, he now boasts four bracelets across four formats. The “Original David Baker” also pushed his live tournament earnings past the $8.3 million mark.

His final opponent was China’s Chuanshu Chen, who collected $431,173 for the runner-up finish, by far the biggest cash of his poker career, easily eclipsing the sub-$300k listed on his Hendon Mob prior to this event. Also featured at the final table was longtime WSOP veteran and bracelet winner John Esposito, who exited in seventh place for $85,244.

2025 WSOP Event #40: $5,000 Seniors High Roller Final Day Recap

Forty-seven players bagged chips at the end of Day 2 in Event #40: $5,000 Seniors High Roller, and even after 12 hours of play on Day 3 couldn’t get the job done. That left four contenders returning for an unscheduled Day 4 with $646,845 reserved for a winner. David “ODB” Baker led the way with 54 big blinds, trailed closely by China’s Chuanshu Chen with 49 and Carmino Argiero with 40. Ron West was the short stack but still had 18 bigs to maneuver with.

Chen wasted no time asserting himself. On the very first hand, he looked down at pocket aces, while Argiero picked up pocket kings. The poker gods were merciful this time as an ace appeared on the flop and Argiero found the fold button on the turn and limited the damage.

Moments later, Chen was back at it, this time tangling with West. West jammed with king-deuce and Chen made the call with queen-ten. The flop came 985, giving Chen a ton of outs. The 4 turn bricked, but the river J gave Chen a straight to send West out in fourth, collecting $215,095 for his deep run.

With three left, Baker and Chen began to pull away, but Argiero wasn’t done just yet. He clawed his way back with not one but two double-ups, first winning with king-six against Baker’s ace-four, then getting lucky again with ace-eight cracking ace-jack with an eight on the flop. That pushed Argiero into the chip lead … briefly.

After Chen opened the action, Baker shoved all-in and Argiero re-shoved over the top. Chen got out of the way, and the cards were tabled: Baker had pocket sixes, and Argiero was well ahead with pocket kings. But the flop came 563, giving Baker a set, and the 6 turn sealed it with quads.

Argiero was left with just seven big blinds. He managed to steal one pot but ran into Chen’s pocket aces with king-queen the very next hand. A low runout sealed his fate, and Argiero was eliminated in third for $114,399.

Heads-up play was set between Chuanshu Chen and David “ODB” Baker, with Chen holding a narrow 4:3 chip lead. But Baker, a two-time bracelet winner, was just getting started.

Baker already held a 2:1 chip lead when he connected with a straight holding nine-eight, extracting value with a sizable river bet where Chen couldn’t find a fold. That pot pushed the lead to 3:1, and the end came just a few hands later.

In the final hand, Baker limped the small blind with ace-three and Chen moved all-in with king-ten. Baker called and the flop of 73A left Chen drawing to runner-runner outs. The Q on the turn gave Chen a glimmer of hope with a gutshot straight draw, but the river 6 bricked out.

With that, David “ODB” Baker became a four-time WSOP bracelet winner, earning $646,845 for the victory. Chuanshu Chen had to settle for second place and a career-best payday of $431,173.
