2025 WSOP: Matt Vengrin Wins Event #54: $1,500 Pot-Limit For $306,791

Matt Vengrin

After three days of poker, Matt Vengrin closed the deal in Event #54: $1,500 Pot-Limit Omaha 8-Handed at the 2025 World Series of Poker, which runs at Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas.

Vengrin beat the field of 1,564, with Bryce Yockey being the last man to beat on his way to the WSOP bracelet and the main prize of $306,791. This win pushed Vengirn’s earnings above $2,000,000 and almost doubled his previous most significant cash of $167,973.

Vengirn started playing in World Series of Poker events in 2007 and has recorded three second-place finishes, missing the bracelet by an “inch” three times.

The Final Table

Starting the final table Matt Vengrin was chip leading with 97 big blinds and the closes one to him was Jacob Snider with 70 big blinds.

As the shortest stack entering the final table, Jason Stockfish was the first one to hit the rail as his pocket queens and pocket fours ran into pocket aces and flush draw of Punnat Punsri, and the board didn’t improve his hand, and he was eliminated in ninth place for $25,541.

Tomer Daniel was the next to follow after all his chips went to the middle against Vegrin, who had a slight lead as his ace had a better kicker (queen over ten), and running queens on the turn and river gave him trips that were more than enough to eliminated Tomer Daniel in eighth place for $33,082.

Antti Marttinen opened from the BTN, and Yockey called; both players were all-in on the flop, with Marttinen at risk of elimination as Yockey covered him. Marttinen was ahead but after the flop Yockey’s bottom pair of threes needed to improve to beat pair of queens, and threes did improve on the river to two pairs jacks and threes to eliminate Marttinen in seventh place for $43,413.

Matthew Beck decided to shove from UTG and got called by three players: Yockey on the BTN, Snider on the SB, and Vengrin on the BB. Flop was checked to Yockey, who bet and got just one call from Vengrin, but when Yockey bet again on the turn, Vengrin folded, and it was showdown time. Beck had a pair of deuces and was against a pair of eights; river also didn’t help him, so he was out in sixth place for $57,711.

Jacob Snider was at risk when he put all the chips in against Vengrin’s preflop and ran into pocket aces with pocket kings. There was not much help from the board for Snider, and Vengrin’s aces held to eliminate Snider in fifth place for $77,703.

Qiaonan Liu opened from SB, and Yockey defended his BB before raises started flying in on the flop, causing all the remaining chips to go in on the turn. When hands were revealed, it was just a cooler situation: Both players had top trips, but Yockey had a better kicker. The river didn’t help Liu out, so he was eliminated in fourth place for $105,947.

Three-way action started when Vengrin opened, and Punsri and Yockey called. Punsri led on the flop and called Vengrin’s shove, just to find out he was in a bad spot with top pair against two pair. The turn and the river didn’t help him, but they turned Vengrin’s two pairs into a full-house, and it was the end of the road for Punnat Punsri, who finished in third place for $146,266.

The Heads-Up

Matt Vengrin entered the final table as the chip leader and managed to keep the chip lead going into the heads-up battle with more than a 2:1 chip lead over Bryce Yockey.

After one hour of battling it out, the last hand happened. Yockey limped from the BTN, and Vengrin called. The flop came 1065; Yockey bet just to get a check-raised by Vengrin, and Yockey called. The turn was 10, Yockey led, and Vengrin called. The river was A, and Yockey decided to pull the trigger and shoved all the remaining chips in the middle, but Vengrin called to announce the bad news. Vengrin had QQ66 for turned full-house, and Yockey was eliminated with K1082 having trips that were not enough. Bryce Yockey made $204,425 for his second-place finish.
