Experienced tournament regular Michael Wang won the World Series of Poker $10,000 Pot-Limit Omaha Championship event for $1,394,579, his third WSOP bracelet. The Event #74 was held at Horseshoe and Paris Vegas.
Wang managed to beat the field of 874 after he was down to just few chips that were worth less than the big blind. This comeback seemed like something from a poker movie where the main character comes back with one chip and wins the tournament.
“It still doesn’t feel real. The first one felt amazing. It was my first year of doing this full-time, and it happened right away. It felt like I didn’t deserve it. The second one was more validating, and now that it’s number three… It’s that feeling, but even more so. Obviously, I ran amazingly, but it doesn’t feel like a fluke anymore,” said Wang after the win to the PokerNews.
Simeon Tsonev was the shortest stack coming into the final table, and he opened from UTG. Michael Zulker raised from HJ, and Tsonev called for his tournament life. Tsonev had J♦J♣4♣3♠ against Zulker’s A♣A♠9♥8♠, and the board came K♠6♠Q♥2♦2♣ and Tsonev’s pocket jacks couldn’t improve against Zulker’s pocket aces. Simeon Tsonev was eliminated in eighth place for $138,863.

Wang opened from CO, and Alex Foxen flatted from SB with few chips behind. The flop rolled A♣10♠9♥ and Foxen lead-shoved, Wang called putting Foxen at risk. Foxen turned K♠Q♦Q♠J♥ and was in bad spot against Wang’s A♠9♦9♠3♥. The turn was 9♣, and it was game-over as Foxen couldn’t improve to beat quads. The river came 5♠ and Foxen was officially eliminated in seventh place for $182,983.
Javier Francort shoved from UTG as the short stack and got called by Sean Rafael. Francort had K♠Q♣9♣5♣ and Rafael had A♣J♠J♦4♥. The board ran A♠J♣3♥2♣K♥, giving Rafael a set of jacks, and Francort picked up a flush draw on the turn on top of his gutshot, but king on the river wasn’t the card he wanted and was eliminated in sixth place for $245,194.
Melad Marji opened from UTG, Zhou raised from CO, Marji was quickly all-in, and Zhou called covering Marji. Marji had Q♥10♠10♥9♥ and was against A♠K♦J♦5♥ of Zhou. The dealer rolled A♦Q♣7♦J♥3♦, giving Zhou the lead on the flop and sealing the deal on the river when Zhou hit the nut flush. Marji was eliminated in fifth place for $334,017.

Wang opened from CO, Rafael shoved from SB, and Wang called after the count and few moments of thinking. Rafael was at risk but was in good shape with A♣A♦K♥10♦ against A♥K♦4♠4♦ until Wang hit the set of fours on the flop which improved to full house on J♠9♠4♣J♣Q♣. Sean Rafael was eliminated in fourth place for $462,451.
Wang continued in the same pace and opened from BTN, Quan Zhou called in BB. The flop rolled 5♥4♣7♣, Wang c-bet and Zhou check-called. The turn came K♥, and Zho lead-shoved just to get snap called by Wang who had him covered. Zhou had Q♦Q♣6♠5♠ and was in bad spot against Wang who had A♦A♣6♥5♣. The river was J♠ and pocket aces held for Wang eliminating Zhou in third place for $650,567.

The Heads-Up
At the start of the heads-up match, Wang had the chip lead, but Zulker also had enough of the chips to give a good fight for the title. The last hand happened when Zulker open limped from BTN with A♣K♠10♥5♠, Wang raised from BB with Q♠J♣J♦8♠ and Zulker called. The flop was J♥10♠10♦, and it looked like it’s going to be a deadly one as both players hit big.
Wang led the flop and Zulker called. The turn was A♠ and all the money went in as both players had full house, but Wang’s was a better one and 6♦ on the river was the end for Zulker as Wang had him covered. Michael Zulker was eliminated in second place for $929,688.
