Rainer Kempe took down the World Series of Poker event #72: $10,000 Super Turbo Bounty No-Limit Hold’em by beating the field of 809 entries to win his first WSOP bracelet at Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas.
Entrants generated a prize pool of $7,523,700, of which $892,701 went to Kampe, who won the event. The runner-up, Yuya Arito, won $595,078 for his second-place finish. This win pushed Kempe’s total live earnings over $23 million.
After the long one-day grind, Kempe said, “It feels like cheating a little bit,” referring to the turbo format that lasts only one day compared to other three-plus day-long grind events.

The Final Table
Chad Thyzel came to the final table as a short stack with just two big blinds, far behind Xiaoyao Ma, the chip leader with 44 big blinds.
Nobody was surprised when Chad Thyzel was the first to be eliminated from the final table after Xiaoyao Ma opened from CO, Yuya Arito shoved, Chad Thyzel called, and Ma folded. Thyzel had A♦Q♥ and was dominated by Arito’s A♣K♥. The board ran 8♥K♠5♦7♦A♠, giving Arito the big lead on the flop, and it held to the river. Thyzel was out in eighth place for $88,352.

Xiaoyao Ma opened from CO, and Colin Dentan called without even looking at his cards as he was short-stacked and was at risk of elimination. Dentan had jack-deuce against ace-ten, and the board ran 9♦10♥7♦Q♦7♣ and Ma’s ace-ten connected on the flop and held to the river, eliminating Dentan in seventh place for $116,468.
Raoul Kanme shoved from UTG, and he was isolated by Ryuta Nakai in MP, who also went all-in. Ryuta Nakai had pocket nines and was ahead of ace-three of Kanme, who was at risk. Kaname hit a pair of threes on the flop, but turn, and river didn’t help him to improve, so he was eliminated in sixth place for $156,166.
Martin Kabrhel opened by putting almost his whole stack in, leaving just a single chip behind, and after the count, he got called by Rainer Kempe. Kabrhel showed jack-seven and was behind Kempe’s king-six. The board ran low, and there was nothing for Kabrhel, while Kempe hit a pair of sixes on the river to improve his and eliminate the villain of WSOP Marin Kabrhel in fifth place for $212,926.

Xiaoyao Ma opened big from the BTN and committed most of his stack but left some chips behind. Arito made the call from the SB, and others folded. The rest of the money went in on the flop 5♦2♥9♥, which neither player hit. Ma had king-ten of spades and was dominated by Arito’s king-queen. The turn and the river didn’t connect with either player, and Ma was eliminated by Arito, who had a better kicker. Ma won $295,133 for his fourth-place finish.
Ryuta Nakai shoved from the SB and was snapped-called by Rainer Kempe in BB. Nakai had an ace-queen of diamonds and was dominated by Kempe’s ace-king. The board ran low and connected before the king on the turn, which game Kempe “the nuts,” and Nakai was eliminated even before the river came. Nakai won $415,755 for his third-place finish.

Rainer Kempe limped limped from BTN, and Yuya Arito checked in BB. The flop came 4♠9♦5♥; Arito checked to Kempe, who bet and got shoved on by Arito. Kempe asked for the count and called. Hands turned up, and Kempe was ahead with J♠5♣ against Arito’s 8♦4♥. The turn came 7♦, and the river was 2♠, marking the end of the game with Arito eliminated in second place for $595,078.
