Canadian pros continued their strong showing at the 2025 World Series of Poker on Tuesday, with several big names charging toward final tables and history. Ari Engel moved within striking distance of the all-time WSOP cashes record as he advanced deep in Event #39: $1,500 H.O.R.S.E., joined by fellow Canadians Thomas Taylor and Alex Livingston in the final 18. Meanwhile, Daniel Negreanu is once again in contention—this time in a potential high-stakes rematch with online legend Viktor “Isildur1” Blom.

Thomas Taylor may be Canada’s best player without a bracelet right now
Alex Livinston WSOP
Ari Engel is officially three cashes away from becoming the all-time WSOP cash leader after bagging 1,340,000 chips in Event #39: $1,500 H.O.R.S.E.—good for 8th place with just 18 players left. Already a mixed-game crusher and longtime grinder, Engel is poised to add yet another deep run to his storied resume.
Also among the final 18 are two more heavy-hitting Canadians. Thomas Taylor leads the Canadian charge with the 5th biggest stack (1,730,000), while Alex Livingston—best known for his WSOP Main Event final table in 2019—bagged 340,000 and will need an early double to stay in contention.
Negreanu, Underwood in Mix for $10K Limit Hold’em Title
Daniel Negreanu
Over in Event #41: $10,000 Limit Hold’em Championship, Daniel Negreanu once again finds himself in the spotlight with a top-five stack heading into Day 2. His 241,000 chip bag puts him 5th overall—and within striking distance of a short-awaited rematch with Swedish online superstar Viktor Blom, who leads with 372,000.
Also making waves in the same event is fellow Canadian Benjamin Underwood, who quietly maneuvered his way to second in chips with 361,000. With two Canadians in the top five, this could set up a thrilling showdown for one of the more prestigious titles in the Limit Hold’em world.
