The Canadian momentum at the 2025 World Series of Poker hasn’t slowed one bit as the series enters its final stretch. Whether it’s multi-day marathons or turbo shootouts, players from the North are staying in contention, flashing red and white across chip bags and payout slips alike.
Pineault Goes Deep in the Millionaire Maker
After days of navigating one of the largest fields of the summer, Karl T Pineault finds himself within striking distance of the final table in Event #53: $1,500 Millionaire Maker. Pineault sits 26th overall with 4,725,000 chips, as just a few tables remain in the hunt for a life-changing seven-figure score.
The Millionaire Maker is always a gauntlet—with just shy of 12,000 entries and a minefield of swings—but Pineault has weathered it all. He now carries the last Canadian torch into the late stages of one of the WSOP’s signature events. Strap in—this could get fun.
Taylor Back in the Spotlight
Thomas Taylor is putting together one of the most consistent mixed-game series runs of any player in the field, Canadian or otherwise. After bagging big in the $3,000 9-Game Mix, Taylor turned that into a second-place finish and a $149,152 payday.
Thomas Taylor
That makes two podium finishes already this summer for the versatile Alberta pro, who continues to show off a deep toolkit across formats. With a few more mixed events on the schedule, don’t be surprised if he makes another final table push before the Series wraps.
Mhatre and Plante Post Strong Starts
A pair of Canadian hopefuls are positioned nicely in two contrasting no-limit events. In Event #61: $500 Freezeout NLH, Abhishek Mhatre bagged a top-20 stack with 1,245,000 chips, setting himself up for a solid Day 2 run in a fast-structured, high-variance field.
Meanwhile, in the more elite Event #62: $5,000 6-Handed NLH, Santiago Plante ended Day 1 with 338,500 chips, good for a strong position in a field loaded with crushers. The $5K 6-Max is always one of the toughest tests on the schedule, but Plante has proven time and again that he can hang in deep waters.
