Gaetz Bags the Megastack Cup; Taylor Wins Her First PLO Title

The final weekend of play at the 2026 Spring Super Stack at Deerfoot Inn & Casino in Calgary is now well underway, with 14 of the 17 scheduled events complete. Friday saw the completion of two more games, with the multi-day Megastack playing out Day 2, and the evening PLO Bounty game running on the Friday side.

The Megastack was a big game, drawing 346 entries across its two starting flights, largely on the back of a massive Day 2 that saw more than 200 entries. That meant they were fighting for a share of almost $165k in total prizes. Meanwhile, on the side, the PLO Bounty game drew 126 entries for combined prizes of $35,910, with $23,310 awarded in prizes and the rest in the bounty pool.

Overall, that brings total prizes for the series to nearly $625k, and with nearly $350k in prizes already for the Main Event, it means this series will end up around $1 million in total prizes.

Ed Gaetz Cruises to Megastack Cup

Event #12: $560 Megastack ($500 + $60)

  • Entries: 346
  • Prizes: $164,350
  • Winner: Ed Gaetz ($37,120)

The Megastack game was the second of three multi-day games in this series, and between the two flights, it drew a field of 346 entries. While 35 players were expected to return for Day 2, a double knockout at the end of Day 1b meant that only 34 players came back for money play on Friday.

The final day of play in Event #12 lasted just over 8 hours, with the final hand playing out about 9:15 PM. Ed Gaetz was the leader for most of the endgame, but it was Kelly Gall and Thomas Taylor who started the final table with the big stacks.

Gall, who finished as runner-up in this game, started the final table with more than 3.6 million of the 10.4 million in play. Taylor, who finished 3rd, was playing almost 2.9m coming into the final 9, while Gaetz was 3rd, and the only other player to stack more than a million at that point.

After the start-of-day leader Matthew Ouellette, ended his day in 9th, Thomas Taylor went to Broadway to send Rafael Wood home in 8th place. Gaetz had a big lead by the time they got five-handed, playing half the chips in play. Short stack Dave S was the next to fall in 5th place, followed by Jae Lee after Taylor raced him to the exits.

They played three-handed for about half an hour before Taylor ended his day for 3rd, setting up a quick heads-up between Gaetz and Gall. Gaetz had a mountain of chips, and when Gall flopped second pair with backdoor straight and flush outs, he got it in. Gaetz was on top pair, and turned two pair to secure the win.

Megastack Final Hand

This looks to be Gaetz first live win. He took second last weekend in the team event, when he and Craig Golemblaski teamed up and faced down the team of Gerry Edwards & Dane Alisasis heads up. The $37k win for Gaetz will be just shy of his previous lifetime earnings once the exchange is worked in. He came into this series with $29k (USD) in earnings, and this win should translate to about $26k USD.

Haven Taylor Gets 10th Win, 1st With Four Cards in PLO Bounty

Event #15: $340 PLO Bounty ($200 + $100 + $40)

  • Entries: 126
  • Prizes: $35,910 ($23,310 prizes, $12,600 bounties)
  • Winner: Haven Taylor ($6,177 + 14 Bounties)

It was a late night for the PLO Bounty players, with the final hand playing out at 5 AM, around 10 hours after they sat down for the first hand. Haven Taylor dominated the final table, playing the big stack through most of the endgame.

Her husband, Thomas, was also in the money of this one, after he jumped in late after pocketing 3rd place money in the Megastack game. He finished in 11th place for $559, but his other half was sitting on the big stack.

Elle Brezina, who bubbled the final table, had a pretty epic run from 20th place down to her final finish in 10th. She was the short stack through all of it, and forced all-in from the big blind several times with just a single big blind. She managed to find ways to survive, and not only did she make the money, but she managed to ladder several spots without ever stacking more than a few big blinds.

Julius Roque, who crushed the $600 PLO a few days before, was the first off the final table in an epic four-way all-in. That hand left Josh Bennett on fumes, and he was the next out, followed by He Wang, who was also part of the previous hand, and said after he boated up for the main pot that he was just looking to go home.

Edmonton’s Benny Sarnelli, who picked up his first Circuit Ring here this past January after winning the record-setting Mini Main Event, was next out in 6th place. After a move to the Poker Room, Gord Chin ended his run in 5th place, and Taylor led four-ways.

Kurtis Ruhl was the short stack four ways, but he managed to find a few doubles to stay alive and ladder over Duane Wong before he succumbed in 3rd. Once Taylor got heads up against Jeff Bryde, it didn’t take long to finish it out. On the final hand, there was a bit of a sweat when the money went in on a flop with Taylor on two pair against a wrap for Bryde.

PLO Bounty Final Hand

The sweat ended when Taylor turned the boat and left Bryde drawing dead. Bryde took four bounties along the way to add to his runner-up prize.

This was Taylor’s 10th live win, but the first time she’s picked up a win in an Omaha format. She pocketed 14 bounties on her way to the win & had a bit more than $560k USD in live earnings coming into this game.
