History was made at Casino Gran Vía in Madrid on Sunday. The Netherlands’ Bo Hoebe spiked a two-outer on the river to crack Nacho Barbero’s trips, win the first-ever WSOP Circuit Main Event on Spanish soil, and take home €207,000.

It was the kind of finish that makes poker worth watching. Barbero turned three deuces, and Hoebe needed one of the two remaining queens in the deck.

The queen came. “I made a huge comeback with the two-outer on the river,” Hoebe told PokerNews, champagne in hand. “It’s f****** crazy!”

Hoebe’s win closes out a landmark series. WSOP Circuit Madrid ran October 23 through November 2 at Casino Gran Vía, the first time the WSOP Circuit had ever set foot in Spain. The 918-entry Main Event generated a €1,164,942 prize pool, and Hoebe claimed the top prize along with a $5,000 package to WSOP Paradise. It is his second career ring.

Hoebe entered the final day as chip leader but found himself under pressure as Argentina’s Nacho Barbero went on a run through the final table, doubling up twice and eliminating multiple players with pocket aces.

By the time they were heads-up, Barbero had real momentum, and Hoebe had to dig in. “I started the day thinking I was going to win it,” Hoebe told PokerNews, “but then Nacho ran like crazy… So I was like: let this guy do the work, and I’ll get him heads-up.”

The final hand told the tournament’s whole story. Hoebe held Q♠10♠ and Barbero K♦2♣. The flop came A♥Q♦2♦, giving Hoebe top pair and Barbero bottom pair. The 2♠ on the turn put Barbero in front with trip deuces, and Hoebe was drawing to two outs. The Q♥ on the river completed a full house for both players. Hoebe had the better full house with queens full of twos, and sent Barbero to the rail in second place for €130,000.

For Hoebe, it is a second WSOP Circuit ring, following his first at the 2023 WSOP International Circuit Holland in a €565 NLH event. He had no idea the WSOP Paradise package was part of the prize. “I have a package for the Bahamas? I didn’t know! It’s crazy, let’s go!” he told PokerNews. He left Madrid with plans for Prague and Vegas on the horizon, and a dream still very much alive. “My dream is still to become a professional player,” he added.

Norway’s Tom-Aksel Bedell finished third for €90,000. Bedell won the €10,000 PLO Grand Slam Championship for €438,000 earlier in 2026 and continues to build one of the stronger European resumes of recent years. Argentina’s Nacho Barbero, a long-established name on the international circuit, left Madrid with €130,000. Sweden’s Per Hildebrand rounded out the top five with €45,000.

A Historic First for Spain

WSOP Circuit Madrid was the first time the circuit had ever visited Spain. The WSOP has steadily expanded its European footprint, with inaugural stops in Malta and Spain both landing in 2026, and the circuit is now a fixture on the European calendar alongside the EPT and Triton.

Casino Gran Vía drew players from across Europe and beyond for all 11 ring events. The Main Event field of 918 entries confirmed there was genuine appetite for a WSOP Circuit event in Spain. Full ring event results will be available once the remaining events on the final day conclude.
