There are now 6 events complete at PPT #4, and Ryan Comely was the winner of the biggest game so far, the opening multi-flight game. Nick Peterson & Khairuddin Akbari took down the two side events that ran Saturday night alongside Day 1b of Event #3, and Sunday alongside Day 2.
The weekend activity has also changed the makeup of the Player of the Series race, with Mike Malm on another tear. He still hasn’t won a game so far this series, but he’s bagged three cashes, the only player to do so, and that’s plenty to rocket him to the top of the standings.
I had an error on my last posting for PoS standings, as I forgot that chopped prize pools mean chopped PoS points as well. After making the adjustment, and adding in the results from Saturday & Sunday, the current standings are below, and early in the series, it looks like it’s Malm’s to lose.
Ryan Comely Wins One for His Kids

Event #3: $670 NLH ($600 + $70)
The big game so far this series is Event #3, the first multi-flight game of the series. The opening flights ran on Friday & Saturday, with the Day 2 money play on Sunday.
Between the two starting flights, 149 entries were recorded, for prizes of nearly $85k. 19 players qualified for Day 2, with Ali Razzaq leading the counts by a mile, almost 250k above second place Ryan Comely.
Nu Teliani was the strongest player early in Day 2, quickly building a chip-leading stack from her start of 260k. By the time they got to the final table, she was well in front, and largely in control.
Ryan Comely, who had promised his kids that he’d bring home a trophy for them, was card-dead early in the final table. He finally made a comment about not getting “any playable hands”, then immediately woke up with pocket jacks and took down a pot.
That started his move to the top, and he was the player in control when they got three ways. He took a pot from Razzaq to drop the start-of-day leader to the short stack. Razzaq doubled shortly after when he shoved fumes blind, but woke up with pocket kings, but he wasn’t able to stage the comeback, and ended his day in 3rd shortly after.
That left Comely with about a 3:1 lead over Teliani for heads up, and it didn’t take long to find a race to end it all. Comely had pocket threes against king-jack for Teliani, and the board missed both players, leaving Comely’s treys in front for the win.
While his wife and kids were at the lake for the weekend, Comely stayed to play the game, and promised his kids there’d be a trophy waiting for them when they got back from the lake. Nice to see dad making good on his promises.

Khairuddin Akbari Wins Event #5 After 4-Way ICM Deal

Event #5: $340 NLH ($300 + $40)
The Saturday night side game was Event #5: $340 NLH. The game drew 68 entries for prizes of $19,380, with 7 players getting a share of that prize pool.
The game played pretty quickly, but in part, that was because the final four players cut a deal. It took about 6.5 hours to play down to the final four, and after they played a few hands four ways, they decided that an ICM chop was the way to go.
Khairuddin Akbari had the big stack when the deal was made, and took first place for $5,102, with Francis Fan, Patrick Michaud, and Jamie Omeasoo also figuring in the deal.
Akbari said this was his first trophy from live poker, and his Hendon Mob profile shows only one previous cash from earlier this year here at Yellowhead.

Nicholas Peterson Takes Down the PKO Game for Almost $10k Combined

Event #6: $560 NLH PKO ($300 + $200 + $60)
The side game on Sunday alongside Day 2 of Event #3 was the two-card PKO game. They got 65 entries for combined prizes of more than $30k, with $17,875 for payouts and $13k for bounties. 7 players got a piece of the payouts.
Mike Malm spent most of the night in control of the game with the big stack, but he ran into it when they got three ways. When runner-up Dan Luczyk limped ace-king into Malm’s aces, it was a spot where the money could easily have gone in, with Malm holding for a huge lead, but instead, it was a small pot.
He also had a spot where winner Nick Peterson spiked trip deuces with six-deuce. It’s unclear what Malm had as he mucked, but he was clearly unhappy about the spot.
Heads up was a pretty even affair to start, but a big hand changed all that. They were just 40k apart when the money went in for a huge race between sixes for Peterson & ace-ten for Luczyk. The board actually ran out to fives full of fours, but Peterson’s sixes gave him the slightly bigger boat for the win.
Luczyk actually had the lead at that point, but he was left with just 40k behind, which was forced into the middle as he was big blind in the next hand, with the blinds at 10k/20k/20k. Luczyk actually woke up with a monster ace-queen, and was well ahead of Peterson’s ten-four, but Peterson found a four on the runout to take it down.
