As the final weekend of PPT #3 approaches, they are getting down to the final few trophies to award. After the Wednesday action, there are just 5 trophies left to win at this stop of the PPT.
Mike Malm took down the big game on Wednesday, after an epic end to the game that saw them play four-handed for about 2.5 hours. Across the room, Maksym Baluchynskyy was busy taking down the NLH Deepstack Hyper, which started and finished while the $560 NLH was still underway.
There wasn’t that much change to the Player of the Series race from Wednesday’s action, but a couple of significant jumps happened. Stefan Maloney grabbed his 3rd cash of the series and jumped into 4th place, while Malm’s win in Event #10 gave him his second cash and bumped him up to 8th place, with the rest of the field staying fairly constant.

Event #10: $560 NLH ($300 + $40)
It was a marathon at the end of the $560 NLH, after starting the game off on a bit of a sprint. They got to the money just 9.5 hours after the first hand was played, but then went more than 5 more hours before they finally settled it.
Four-handed play was the big roadblock. They played four ways for almost 3 hours before Amir Khan ended his night in 4th, then Olaksandr Lobur spent an hour or so playing the short stack before he busted in 3rd.
Once Mike Malm got heads-up with Jarret Gray (who was in a similar heads-up spot in May on the same day of the series, except last time he was across the room battling in the Deepstack Hyper), it ended relatively quickly.
Malm raised to 100k with blinds at 25k/50k/50k, and Gray called. Gray check-called for 50k on the 9♠Q♥A♦ flop, but after a check on the K♣ turn, Gray check-shoved over Malm’s 100k bet. Malm snapped it off with two pair playing K♦9♥ while Gray was on second pair and a Broadway draw with K♠J♦.
Gray bricked his Broadway on the 8♦ river, and Malm’s two pair was the best to take it down for his first win and second cash of the series. The points he got were enough to push him into the top ten in the Player of the Series race, but he’ll need to book a few more deep runs to make it to the top.

Event #11: $340 NLH Deepstack Hyper ($500 + $60)
The NLH Deepstack Hyper game lived up to its name, as it started and finished while the main game for Wednesday was still running. As a result, this game got very little coverage, and I was only able to get over to catch the final hand and the winner’s photo.
Maksym Baluchynskyy hit trip tens on the final hand to take out Pete Fylyma in second, with Fylyma having just arrived from Saskatchewan for Wednesday action. The game took about 8 hours from start to finish.
Among the other notable finishers in this one was Benny Sarnelli. He took 5th place for his 4th cash of the series. That’s more cashes than anyone else so far in the series and, even without a win so far, he’s fighting for the Player of the Series in 3rd place.
