What’s the Best Starting Hand in Sviten?
During the break of Ring Event €5: €1,500 Main Event, this reporter ran into Riku Koivurinne and Scott Kenyon. God knows what they were talking about before I interrupted them.
Knowing they both are Mixed Games enthusiasts, I asked them if they’re excited for Ring Event #: €555 Sviten. This is the first time ever that the Five-card Draw/PLO-hybrid game is WSOP Circuit Ring Event-certified, and presumably, many players are excited about this one.
Indeed, Kenyon plans to enter the tournament. For Koivurinne, it depends on whether he makes Day 2 of Ring Event #5: €1,500 Main Event. Currently, he’s in Day 1d with a 90,000 stack (average is 68,956). Considering Koivurinne won the Sviten event last year (once again, not a Ring Event back then), I thought he could help me answer the age-old question: what is the best starting hand in poker?
There doesn’t seem to be a 100 % known answer, though. One can argue for the royal flush since you lock up half of the pot directly, but it may not connect that good with the community cards. Kenyon believes a middle-card straight flush may be the way to go. Perhaps, time will tell during tomorrow’s tournament.

Merivirta Busts from 8-Game
Jyri Merivirta Game: Deuce-to-Seven Triple Draw 20,000/40,000 (40,000) Entries: 5/79 Prizes: €75,050 A short-stacked Jyri Merivirta moved all in for 15,000 UTG. Pasi Laihinen raised to 60,000 from the Button, before Thor Morstol made it 90,000 from the Big Blind. Laihinen wasn’t done and raised again to 120,000. Morstol made the call.
Morstol and Laihinen discarded one card each on the first draw, while Merivirta got rid of two. Morstol then check-called a 30,000 bet from Laihinen.
On the second draw, Morstol discarded one, Merivirta two, and Laihinen stood pat. Morstol checked, Laihinen bet 60,000, Morstol raised to 120,000 and Laihinen called.
Morstol and Laihinen both stood pat on the third and final draw, while Merivirta bought one. Morstol bet 60,000 and Laihinen made the call.
Jyri Merivirta: K♣7♦6♠4♠2♦
Thor Morstol: 7♠6♥4♥3♥2♥

8-Game Finale and More on Day 7
The best way to describe the 2025 WSOP Circuit Tallinn is as a mighty train of joy that never stops rolling. Next stop on the ride is Day 7, and just like all the previous stations, this too is a marvelous destination. Today, one new WSOP Circuit Ring winner will be crowned, as it’s the final day of Ring Event #8: €1,100 8-Game. There’ll also be a bunch of more players on the hunt for glory in Ring Event #5: €1,500 Main Event, as there’s not one, but two starting flights on the schedule. In terms of side events, there’s exciting news in the form of the €750 NLH Progressive Bounty & Mystery Bounty. Let’s break down what is yet another day in poker paradise.
8-Game Champion to be Crowned
Being a poker player at the Hilton Tallinn Park Hotel today is like being a kid in a candy store; everything you lay your eyes on, you want. The first lollipop is Day 1d of the €1,500 Main Event. Through the previous three starting flights, a total of 144 players have secured their bags for Day 2. 361 entries have been made in total, which means that €487,350 already has been contributed to the guaranteed €1,000,000.
Sampo Ryynänen is the chipleader of Ring Event #8: €1,100 8-Game going into Day 2 The next Ring Event on the schedule is Day 2 of the €1,100 8-Game. 8-Game is one of the most popular Mixed Games, and yesterday’s Day 1-flight scored 79 entries. 16 players made it through to Day 2, who will resume play at 13:00 today.
The third Ring Event-installment is Day 1e of the €1,500 Main Event, scheduled to commence at 19:00. While this is what’s going on today in terms of Ring Events, there are a few side events on the menu, one of which is very intriguing.
Of course, poker.pro is referring to the €750 NLH Progressive Bounty & Mystery Bounty. This is a special one; €240 goes to the prize pool, €200 is the initial bounty on all players, and €230 is going towards the Mystery Bounty prize pool. The Mystery Bounties will be in play once players are in the money. This truly is an interesting tournament that players do not want to miss.

Roy Van Der Reijnst Level 37: 300,000/600,000 (600,000) Entries: 1/744 Prizes: €353,400 Seated on the Button, Toni Niinivaara decided just to call the Big Blind. Roy Van Der Reijnst checked.
Both players checked the 3♥Q♣9♦ flop. On the 2♠ turn, Van Der Reijnst check-called a 800,000 bet from Niinivaara.
The river was the 10♣. Van Der Reijnst checked again, and Niinivaaaa fired a 2,000,000 bet. Then, Van Der Reijnst announced he was all in for 7,200,000. Niinivaara was visibly uncomfortable, and he asked the floor if he was allowed to stand up while he pondered his decision. After approval, he rose from his chair, asked the dealer from the count, and eventually, he made the call.

Andria Gogelidze Going for Back-to-back PLO Rings
Andria Gogelidze won Ring Event #2: €555 PLO4/5 during the 2025 WSOP Circuit Tallinn Two days ago, Monday 28, Andria Gogelidze claimed his first WSOP Circuit Ring as he won Ring Event #2: €555 PLO4/5. The Georgian is not done yet, though, as he’s one of the 18 players remaining in Ring Event #6: €1,100 PLO4/5. Will he be able to get back-to-back circuit rings in the same game? The poker.pro live reporting team sat down with Andria to talk about his win, his journey in the €1,100, and his poker in general.
Even though specializing in cash game, Andria proved his ability to adapt to the tournament format. He was a big stack all throughout the €555 event, and even though losing his chiplead Taago Tamm during heads-up, he managed to turn things around and claim the title.
One must admire how fast Andria’s been able to develop his PLO tournament skills:
“I started studying PLO MTT’s roughly two months ago. I play Texas NLH as well, but I’m much better in PLO. In tournaments, you should be more aggressive than cash games. I think many players are a little bit too passive. My agression is the biggest key to my success.”

Finland €8,900 5 Christoffer Jensen
Denmark €6,100 6 Sami Pulliainen
Finland €4,500 7 Kasper Mellanen
Finland €3,525 Andria’s profile on The Hendon Mob confirms he’s mainly a cash game player. Don’t look down on his tournament resumé, though; at the 2024 WSOP Europe Rozvadov, he finished twenty-seventh out of 768 entries in the €10,350 Main Event for €40,700.
Considering this reporter is far from a PLO specialist, Andria had to tell me whether the 4- or 5-card orbit is the most manageable:
“I am better with four cards. I actually started to study som 6-card a while ago, but 5-card is my worst game out of the three.”
Andria Gogelidze As previously stated, Andria is one of the remaining players in the €1,100 edition, competing for his second WSOP Circuit Ring and back-to-back titles. €41,000 is the first-place payout, and after eliminating Markus Ristola during the last hand before the break, Andria is now fifth in the chip counts. Time will tell if he’ll be able to pull off what would be a very impressive second WSOP Ring Event win.

Photo: Elena Kask It’s day 6 of the 2025 WSOP Circuit Tallinn, and one of the most action-packed days of the entire festival lies ahead. No fewer than five star-spangled ring events are on today’s schedule, and two new winners will be crowned. On top of that, there’s an excellent opportunity to secure one’s seat to the €1,500 Main Event for a cheaper prize. Let’s dissect today’s schedule.
Ring Events Galore
Straight from the get-go at 12:00, the action will kick off with four Ring Events. For starters, it’s the conclusion of Ring Event #3: €555 NLH. 20 players are returning to Day 3, and Raivis Pucurs is currently the chipleader. This is the biggest ever €555 tournament in Estonia, and the remaining contestants are competing for the €62,100 first-place payout.
Ring Event #6: €1,100 PLO4/5 will also wrap up today, meaning there’ll be more WSOP Ring owners crowned today. 29 players made it through yesterday’s Day 1; one of them being Andria Gogelidze, who won the €555 PLO 4/5 the other day. Will he be able to get back-to-back titles?
Andria Gogelidze. Photo: Elena Kask Day 1b of Ring Event #5: €1,500 Main Event also kicks off at noon. 47 players out of 125 entries came through yesterday’s 1a flight, meaning €161,595 has already been collected towards the €1,000,000 guaranteed prize pool.
There’s more Texas NLH action today, though, as Ring Event #7: €5,000 NLH also is scheduled to commence at 12:00. Last years edition of the WSOP Circuit Tallinn didn’t feature a Ring Event of this buy-in caliber; it’ll be intriguing to see which players decide to compete for high stakes glory.
Then, at 17:00, it’s time for Ring Event #8: €1,100 8-Game. Rumors has it Martin “Franke” von Zweigbergk will pay the Hilton Tallinn Park Hotel a visit in an attempt to defend his title.

Adaptation Key to Success for Mini Main Event Winner Hesserud Persson
Simon Hesserud Persson won the €350 Mini Main Event during the 2025 WSOP Circuit Tallinn. Photo: Elena Kask On Monday, the first two WSOP Circuit Ring Event winners were crowned during the 2025 WSOP Circuit Tallinn. Ring Event #1: the €350 Mini Main Event was the first tournament to kick off the whole festival, and it’s safe to say the interest was big. 2025 is the first year the Mini Main Event is ring-certified here in Tallinn, and a whopping 954 entries took up the fight for eternal poker glory.
After three days of play, it was Sweden’s Simon Hesserud Persson who emerged victorious. He built up a solid stack already on Day 1b, and he never really looked back. Simon was kind enough to spare ten minutes of his time for a short interview with the poker.pro live reporter.
Photo: Elena Kask While the initial start of the tournament was a rocky road for Simon, he managed to turn things around rather quickly:
“I late-registrated for Day 1b, perhaps three hours after the tournament had started. I went down to 12,000 from the 50,000 start stack fairly early. Then, I managed to triple up, and then double up, pretty much back-to-back.”
One of Simon’s strengths in live poker is his ability to adapt to the other players. While he considers himself a somewhat aggressive player in general, he’s very conscious of his opponent’s styles of play, and if needed, he’ll tighten up and wait for a better spot. Simon recalls one very crucial hand from Day 1b:
“I opened from middle position, and a somewhat crazy player called from the Cutoff. A short-stack then went all in, and when action came back to me, I decided to isolate with pocket sevens. I shoved almost 40 Big Blinds, but the Cutoff-player snap-called with jack-nine suit. Luckily, my sevens held up, and I now had one of the biggest stacks.”
A big stack might be an understatement. In fact, the Swede entered Day 2 with the second-most in chips. During the later stages of Day 1b, he managed to convert his 500,000 stack to 1,345,000, just by opening pretty much any hand and stealing chips from the more passive players. This gave him great presumptions for a deep run, and the lowest he got during Day 2 was still well above the average stack.
Needless to say, Day 2 was pretty rutine for Simon, and the next day, he entered the final table as third most in chips. Perhaps, some had Corne Scheel as the favorite to win the tournament; the Dutch chipleader had more than double of Norwegian Nicolai Austad, who was second in the counts. Simon, however, won the biggest pot of the tournament (at that particular stage) against Scheel. Doing so, he overtook the chiplead, and he never lost it on his way to the title.

Latvia € 3,493 The tournament victory means Simon secures the biggest cash of his career so far. He’s far from a novice, though; it’s his fourth live tournament win, and he’s also a prominent online player. After Tallinn, the next live poker adventure for Simon will be the 2025 Battle of Malta, October 28-November 5.
Simon is the third Swede to win a WSOP Circuit Ring. During the 2023 WSOP Circuit Tallinn, Alexander Hallenstam won the €660 PLO Hi-Lo. During last year’s festival, Martin “Franke” von Zweigbergk won the €350 8-Game. Not only did Simon win the coveted ring and €45,700; he also won a $5,000 Ticket to Paradise. That means he’ll pack his bags and travel to the 2025 WSOP Paradise, which will be played at the Bamahas, December 4-18.
He’s not done in Tallinn just yet, though. Simon is staying until the very end, and right now, he has a 170,000 stack in Ring Event #3: €555 NLH. With its 744 entries, it’s the biggest €555 tournament ever on Estonian soil. Will the Swede be able to win back-to-back WSOP Circuit Rings? Time will tell.

Not only that, but two other Ring Events will also commence; one of them being the first flight of the much-anticipated €1,500 Main Event. Of course, there’s also some juicy side event action going on, as well as one of the most intriguing satellites of the whole festival. Let’s break down today’s menu and see what’s in store.
Main Event, One of Four Ring Events Today
This lovely Tuesday will kick off with Day 2 of Ring Event #3: €555 NLH. Through the three starting flights, a combined 285 out of 602 entries have made it through. €285,950 has been contributed to the prize pool; however, late registration will be open during the first two levels today. Day 2 will start on Blinds 1,000/1,500 with a 1,500 Ante, and play will not conclude until only 16 players remain.
Then, at 15:00, it’s the moment you’ve all been waiting for – Day 1a of Ring Event #5: €1,500 Main Event. With a €1,000,000 guarantee, the hype around this tournament has been overwhelming, and no doubt is this the crème de lá cremé of the 2025 WSOP Circuit Tallinn.
Svetlana Aubakirova. Photo: Elena Kask The remaining ladies in Ring Event #4: €350 NLH Queens will take their seats at 16:00. After yesterday’s entertaining Day 1-flight, which attracted 74 entries to create a €21,793 prize pool, the eleven survivors will continue the battle for the €6,480 first-place payout and the WSOP Circuit Ring. Norway’s Drea Karlsen is the current chipleader, but at this stage, anything can happen. The tournament will also be the first subject of this year’s live streaming; Andreas “Wiseguy” Höglund and George Sandford will kick off the broadcast at 16:30 (i.e., a 30-minute delay will be applied).
Speaking of the ladies, there’ll also be a Ladies’ Meet and greet at 16:00. A Ladies-Only Freebuy Satellite will be conducted, and the top three will win a ticket each to the €200 NLH Queens side event, which is scheduled for August 2.
Andria Gogelidze. Photo: Elena Kask Let’s leave the Ladies event, but stay at 16:00. Ring Event #6: €1,100 PLO4/5 should be a juicy one, and perhaps, Andria Gogelidze (who won yesterday’s Ring Event #2: €555 PLO4/5) will participate, competing for back-to-back PLO Ring Event titles.
While this is it in terms of Ring Events during the day, there’s a bunch of intriguing side events, such as the €200 NLH WSOP Circuit Tallinn Special; at 20:30, a draw will be conducted, and a random player in the tournament will win a ticket to the €1,500 Main Event.
2025 WSOP Circuit Tallinn – Tuesday July 29 Schedule

Mini Main Event Highlights Schedule for Day 2
A ring from the 2024 WSOPC Tallinn. Photo: Elena Kask After a successful Day 1, it’s time for the 2025 WSOP Circuit Tallinn to kick off for real. Even though yesterday’s two tournaments generated astonishing numbers of entries, today is when play moves into the event facilities located on the second floor of the Hilton Tallinn Park Hotel. Today’s schedule features a delicious smorgasbord of events, and poker.pro is on-site, ready to cover every ounce of action.
Day 1b and 1c of the €350 Mini Main Event should be considered the main course of today’s menu. Yesterday’s Day 1a flight attracted 274 entries, and 41 players bagged for Day 2, which will be played tomorrow, Sunday the twenty-seventh. All Day 1-flights are being played down to 15 % of the field. Finland’s Ville-Matti Keränen bagged the chip lead from the first flight with 1,360,000.
The €350 Open-face Chinese is also an interesting nugget on today’s schedule. The 2025 WSOP Circuit Tallinn is heavy on the Mixed Games, and this is just the first non-Texas NLH tournament out of many for the ten-day festival.
There are also two €80 satellites later tonight. The €80 PLO5 Satellite has five tickets guaranteed to the second WSOP Circuit Ring Event, the €555 PLO4/5. The €80 Texas NLH Satellite has a whopping ten tickets guaranteed to the €555 NLH, aka Ring Event number three.
Last but not least, there’s a €200 Progressive Bounty tournament kicking off at 15:00. With €80 progressive bounties, this tournament should attract all intrigued bounty hunters.
